Arshavin flies in for Arsenal talks

Russia international Andrei Arshavin.is finally flying into London to discuss terms over his long mooted move to Arsenal.

The Zenit St Petersburg player has been linked with the Gunners throughout the transfer window but it is only now that he seems clear for talks.

Zenit St Petersburg have made it clear throughout the process they are willing to sell the wantaway 27-year-old playmaker, at the right price.

However, the Gunners have remained resolute in their offer of £12 million plus add-ons amid reports of Arshavin being ready to slash his wage demands in order to push the move through.

The fact that Arshavin is now flying into the capital would suggest that things are finally going to be pushed through after some doubts still remained on Friday.

Then, when asked if the deal was nearly done, Arsene Wenger declared "Whether we are close or not has little meaning - it does not matter how close you are, what is important is that you agree. At the moment, we have no agreement with anybody for any transfer.

"We are always confident, we try our best and respect our budget. If we can find an agreement, we will do it, if we cannot we will not overspend what we have planned to do."

The playmaker, who was one of the stars of Euro 2008, has reportedly agreed to repay Zenit half of a £4m signing-on fee to leave the club, and he is thought to have agreed to a salary cut in order to secure a move to the Emirates.
