Benitez confident Masch will extend his stay at Liverpool
Rafael Benitez believes influential Liverpool duo Pepe Reina and Javier Mascherano will commit to extended deals at Anfield despite speculation linking them with moves away from the club.
Holding midfielder Mascherano, who has been rumoured to be a transfer target for Barcelona, is content to remain a Liverpool player, according to his club boss.
"I was talking with him and his agent the other day and it is true Javier is happier," Benitez said, according to The Independent.
"The conversations were very positive. When you talk with Javier he is very settled and happy. Everyone knew about some clubs [interested in him] but talking with us he was fine."
When pressed as to whether a new deal will be signed by the player, Benitez replied: "I think so."
On the progress regarding Pepe Reina's extension, the manager added: "Pepe is another key player and it is 100 per cent he will continue with us.
"Everything is very close. I think we will have news about Reina and Mascherano very soon."
