Pompey Admit Interest In Madrid Striker Saviola

Portsmouth are closing in on the capture of Real Madrid forward Javier Saviola, according to the Premier League club’s own admission.

The Sun had on Thursday speculated that Saviola could be headed for Portsmouth on-loan until the end of the season, and Pompey executive chairman Peter Storrie has since revealed that they are in positive talks with Madrid over the zippy Argentine striker.

“I’ve been working on a couple of targets today - and he has been looked at. I have had quite a lot of discussions with Real,” he told a local reporter.

“I’m sure there’s a deal to be done but it will be down to Tony (Adams) to decide if he wants to take that forward.”

A small, quick, sharp-shooting striker, Saviola could be an ideal partner for Peter Crouch, so it is hard to imagine that Adams would turn his nose at a deal even considering the ex-Barcelona starlet’s failure to set Spanish football alight.
