Portsmouth table bid for Liverpool winger Pennant

Portsmouth have tabled a £2 million bid for Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant.

The Daily Mail says Pennant, who turned 26 yesterday, was the subject of a stunning approach from Spanish champions Real Madrid, but the move broke down over personal terms.

Coach Juande Ramos wanted to revive the deal but was told to consider other targets.

AC Milan have also made an offer to Pennant for the end of the season when he is out of contract.

Pennant, who joined Liverpool for £6.5m in 2006, had been sounded out by Hull City and Wigan but is reluctant to commit himself to a long-term deal and may prefer to agree a loan instead so that he can weigh up his options in the summer.

Portsmouth manager Tony Adams is determined to add to his squad and Pennant’s price falls within his budget
