Stoke seal £3.75m signing
James Beattie last night completed a £3.75million move to Stoke City after Blackburn declined to follow up their earlier interest.
Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell, who had been preparing his team for tonight’s FA Cup third round trip to Leyton Orient, confirmed that Stoke’s bid had been accepted.
It was thought the ex-Sheffield United, Everton and Southampton striker might be open to other interest, with Newcastle and Fulham also thought to be in the hunt, but Stoke boss Tony Pulis got his man.
Beattie had been believed to favour a return to Blackburn, where new boss Sam
Allardyce is expecting to have funds from the impending sale of Roque Santa Cruz to
Manchester City.
Stoke are also planning a £500,000 swoop for Nancy left back Jean Calve.
Meanwhile, Allardyce made Macclesfield striker Nick Blackman, 19, his first signing.
