Andrei Arshavin To Arsenal Move Confirmed
At last! The Russian superstar has joined Arsenal, signing a deal that will keep him at the Emirates until 2012, with Arshavin wearing the number 13 shirt for the Gunners, according to reports from Sky Sports News, with the AFP news agency reporting that the fee will be in the region of £12 million (€13.3 million).
That fee would be substantially lower than the £20 million that Zenit were believed to be demanding from the north London outfit. However, in a deal that has matched the Kaka to Manchester City in the complexity of the twist and turns of its negotiations, without ever quite matching the level of hysteria that surrounded the Brazilian’s proposed switch, nothing is quite as it seems.
Zenit had been stalling because of a demand that Arshavin pay them a percentage of his signing-on fee. Whether that issue has now been resolved is unclear, but it seems the move will now definitely take place. However, there is still no official confirmation from either of the clubs and the player involved.
