Key one-on-one battles in Liverpool V Real Madrid

Liverpool host Real Madrid on Tuesday night holding a 1-0 lead as they head into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

Here we take a look at the players from both sides who could have a major say in the outcome of the tie.
JAMIE CARRAGHER v GONZALO HIGUAIN
Carragher is the key member of Liverpool's defensive unit in terms of being the chief organiser, while his straightforward, no-nonsense approach belies the qualities which make him such a difficult opponent. Higuain has to play in the shadow of Real legend Raul but has been the most impressive forward this season, with 14 goals in 23 league games - although he has not yet found the net in Europe.
STEVEN GERRARD v FERNANDO GAGO
The Liverpool captain remains their most creative force whether he plays in an advanced midfield role or in an orthodox flat four and is the club's top scorer in the Champions League this season with five goals.
Gago is likely to be detailed with trying to shackle Gerrard but the 22-year-old Argentinian still has a lot to learn in that role.
FERNANDO TORRES v PEPE
Injury has affected Torres' form and his participation may yet depend on a fitness test on an ankle problem but the ex-Atletico Madrid striker will be desperate to feature against his former city rivals as he seeks to score his first Champions League goal this season.
Pepe is the current star in Madrid's defence and his pace and reading of the game will be required to keep Torres quiet.
