Liverpool alert as Villa & Silva up for sale

Spanish duo David Villa and David Silva, both heavily linked with moves to Liverpool in the past and particularly last summer, may be available after Valencia’s new chief executive Javier Gomez admitted the club’s precarious financial state.

Valencia reportedly have an unpaid wage bill of €15 million and Gomez admits they consider selling their two star players, he said;

“Selling Silva and Villa? Obviously we will consider that type of action. We have to control costs, and the biggest cost in a football club is maintaining a team.”

Some reports suggest Valencia have a total debt of €450m, they have also stopped construction work on their new stadium. Gomez said;

“The club is in a very delicate situation. It has to control spending, grow income and sell assets.

Before, we had a plan that was based purely on selling the land, now we need to seek alternatives. We need to win back credibility with the financial institutions.”

Midfielder Silva is under contract at Los Che until 2014, and striker Villa until 2013. Villa in particular was heavily linked with a move to Anfield and teaming up with Fernando Torres after the two of them fired Spain to European Championship glory last summer.
