Portsmouth Defender to Replace Hyppia
Liverpool have reportedly lined up Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin as a cut-price replacement for Sami Hyypia.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez apparently sees the 31-year-old as the perfect man to fill the void the experienced Hyypia has left in the Anfield squad.
Hyypia, 35, has left for Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer after a decade at Anfield.
Liverpool are reportedly prepared to pay Portsmouth £2million for Distin, who has just 12 months left on his contract after moving to Fratton Park from Manchester City in 2007.
Distin recently admitted he is unsure whether he will serve out the final year of his contract on the South Coast.
'Right now I expect to be here next season but I'm not in touch with anyone and tomorrow things can change,' he said.
'There may be a new manager with his players and I won't play. A lot of things can happen in the coming months.'
