Daniel Agger’s hopes of a swift comeback for Liverpool have received a blow with the defender set to undergo surgery in an attempt to cure his ongoing back complaint.
The Danish defender could face at least six weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from the operation.
Agger has been troubled by a back problem throughout the summer and sat out Liverpool’s opening two games of the season.
Rafael Benitez stated earlier this week that Agger would be out for the next three weeks, but the decision has now been taken for the 24-year-old to go under the knife in France next Tuesday.
