New Liverpool boy eager to get his boots on for the bigger stage
Rafa Benitez says Alberto Aquilani is making good progress from injury and it's believed the Italian is targeting at return at Chelsea.
The midfielder has not yet featured for the Reds following his high-profile summer move from Roma, having suffered with an ankle injury which he picked up before his switch.
Liverpool fans are anxiously awaiting their first view of Aquilani, who has undergone more medical checks this week which Benitez says are promising.
Speaking to the Daily Post, the Reds boss said: "Alberto is improving. We were talking before about six to eight weeks and after a few weeks his ankle is much better but he will need time."
Benitez added: "We are checking on him regularly and he had a scan in the past week which showed he is much better.
"It's just a case of keeping an eye on him every day. When he does start to play everyone will see what a clever player he is."
The manager refuses to put a date on Aquilani's potential return to action but, if all goes to plan, it's believed that the Italian could be included for the trip to Stamford Bridge on October 4.
