Liverpool eyeing strikers in the transfer window
Rafa Benitez will go head-to-head with Manchester Utd boss Alex Ferguson to sign West Ham and England striker Carlton Cole.
Liverpool looking lacking in attacking options when Fernando Torres isn’t around, Benitez could well look to sign a striker this January.
But it understood West Ham are very reluctant to sell Cole, who is hoping to play enough regular football this season to win a place in Fabio Capello’s England squad for next year’s World Cup in South Africa.
A statement from the Hammers rubbished suggestions they may have to offload Cole to raise cash to stay afloat. It read, “We want to keep all our best players and the suggestion that we need to sell because of a financial crisis is not true.”
Meanwhile Arsenal’s Eduardo has also been linked with a move to Anfield this January with reports suggesting Benitez is preparing a £10million move for the 26-year-old Croatian international.
Since arriving at the Emirates in 2007, Eduardo’s career has been hit by injury problems. He broke his left fibula and suffered an open dislocation of his left ankle following a lunging tackle by Birmingham City’s Martin Taylor in February 2008.
