Manchester City are expected to sign Shay Given from Newcastle this week in a deal that could be worth in excess of £10million.
City have already had at least two bids turned down for the goalkeeper but the latest reports suggest a new offer of over £10million will finally persuade the Magpies to sell.
Given is desperate to leave St James' Park after growing increasingly frustrated with all the off-field uncertainty and has reportedly agreed personal terms with City.
The Republic of Ireland international, 33, is set to be offered a lucrative contract by the Eastlands club and is being tipped to sign a three-and-a-half year deal with Mark Hughes' side in the next few days.
There are suggestions Magpies boss Joe Kinnear has targeted Portsmouth and England keeper David James as Given's long-term replacement but is set to call upon current second-choice stopper Steve Harper until the end of the season if, as expected, Given does depart.
