Gerrard : Torres is world's Best
STEVEN GERRARD hailed Fernando Torres as the world’s best striker after the Spaniard inspired Liverpool to their biggest victory over Manchester United in 73 years.
The Spain striker’s moment of brilliance on 28 minutes, beating Nemanja Vidic in a contest of strength and pace before slotting past Edwin van der Sar, brought Liverpool back on level terms after Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener.
Torres then had a hand in winning the penalty from which Gerrard fired the Reds in front minutes before the interval.
And Gerrard admits Liverpool would have a stronger case for the title if the Spaniard had not been hit by hamstring problems.
He said: “He is magic. I know I am biased but I don’t think anyone will argue with me when I say he is the best striker in the world. If we keep him fit until the end of the season then it’ll be an exciting run.
“It’s been frustrating not having him out there. I believe if we’d had him fit for more games we’d be closer to, if not ahead of, United.”
