Rafa not ready to budge from Xabi's price tag

Real Madrid are to attempt to close out a deal for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso by including a player in the transfer.

Los Merengues have been given until Monday by the Reds to either complete the transfer or end their chase for Alonso.

Reports have emerged that the Merseysiders are demanding an upfront transfer fee of €35 million and an additional €5m based on the player's success at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the Spanish powerhouse have so far yet to improve on their last bid of €25m.

Los Blancos could try to bridge the massive €10m gap by offering a choice of three players to include in a part-exchange deal: Alvaro Negredo, Rafael van der Vaart or Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The paper believes that Liverpool will be tempted by the proposal as they are searching for a frontman to accompany Fernando Torres. And, if accepted, it will allow the Merengues to clear an extra space in the dressing room to welcome Alonso into the squad.

The ball is now very much in Madrid ’s court after Xabi reportedly handed in his transfer request to his Anfield bosses.

Negredo is currently valued at around €15m, while Huntelaar’s price tag is set at €20m.
