Liverpool set to unleash the Beast

Rafa Benitez is looking into the possibility of bringing Julio Baptista to cash strapped Liverpool. The Brazilian international is interested in a season long loan deal in this World Cup year, which would be ideal for the under fire Spaniard.

The Roma player has struggled to find form in Italy and the Serie A club would be pleased to get him off their wage bill.

That would certainly appeal to penniless Liverpool who have had a dreadful start to the season. With no money to spend Benitez is struggling to get any players in before Tuesdays deadline. Benitez sees the Brazilian who is eager to impress international manager Dunga, as a realistic possibility. He believes the Roma midfielder has the crudentials to fit right into Liverpool’s style of play. The powerful midfielder has an eye for goal who can play behind the striker or in a deeper more central role.

Rafa Benitez is unlikely to forget ‘the Beast’ after his time spent in England at Premier League rivals Arsenal. Baptista caught the Liverpool managers eye when he found the net 4 times in a memorable carling cup encounter at Anfield in 2007, ending 6-3 to the Gunners. If Baptista could re-create that majestical form it could well re-ignite Liverpool’s title bid and prove to be the bargain of the season.

The former Real Madrid midfielder has been linked with a move back to England since his loan deal with the Gunners ended. Rumours circulated that the Liverpool boss was preparing a bid for Baptista while he was still at Real, but was put off by his hefty price tag.

His agent had dismissed a return to England after he was linked with West Ham United and Portsmouth. However a move to Premier League giants Liverpool is a totally different proposition and could prove impossible to resist.
