Gerrard to miss Belarus match confirms boss

The Liverpool skipper has limped out of training and is out of Wednesday's final qualification game.

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard today pulled out of a training session with England with an injury that will keep him out of Wednesday's clash with Belarus at Wembley.

Manager Fabio Capello was able to confirm that the player was returning to his club for treatment on the groin injury.

"He didn't finish training because the pain was the same as yesterday so he is going back to Liverpool," Capello told reporters at a press conference today.

Wayne Rooney is also out of Wendesday's game with a calf problem, meaning that Capello will look to experiment with his line-up somewhat as the Three Lions have already sealed a place in South Africa next summer.

"Rooney is a very important player for us but tomorrow we play a different style, we play with some different players and it will be a very interesting game for me," the Italian added.

"I will know some players better.

"The style of Rooney is the style I like in my team but we can win with or without Rooney. I have big confidence in other players and it's possible there will be a surprise tomorrow."

Meanwhile, Capello has also invited every player involved with England's successful qualifying campaign to the game on Wednesday night.

He explained: "It is the family of the England team."
