Liverpool looking for Pandev on free transfer

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has turned to Lazio want-away striker Goran Pandev to boost the Reds' season, according to The People.

26 year-old Pandev has finally had a long running legal battle with Lazio resolved and has been released from his contract. The Macedonian striker joined Lazio in 2004 and has been a regular goalscorer in Serie A. However, he has not played this season and is reportedly on his way out of Rome, having been branded a "rebel" by club president Claudio Lotito.

Pandev has over 50 international caps to his name and the prospect of securing him on a free transfer has made him a top priority for Benitez. The Liverpool boss has reportedly urged managing director Christian Purslow to find the cash to finance a deal with the striker wanting around £95,000-a week.

Benitez is well aware that he will need to sell players in order to finance additions to his Liverpool squad. Several players appear to be in line for an Anfield exit, including Dutch attacker Ryan Babel , Ukrainian forward Andriy Voronin and Italian defender Andrea Dossena who is reported to be on the verge of a deal to join Roma.
