Purslow confirms Liverpool are in no intention to sell star players
Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow says the club would never choose to sell Fernando Torres or Steven Gerrard.
Speculation that the Reds may have to cash in on their biggest assets increased at the weekend, after comments from Anfield boss Rafael Benitez.
When asked what would happen if the club received massive bids for their star men, the Spaniard reportedly responded: "We would have a conversation and decide what's the best for the club."
But despite that Purslow says the Spanish striker and England midfield are going nowhere, and revealed that the club could have new investors in the next few months.
He told the Liverpool Echo : "Nothing could be further from the truth than reports which suggested the club would choose to sell its star footballers. Full stop. The idea that we would ever wish to sell our top players is completely against the interests of this club.
In fact our key priority since the summer has been to secure our senior players on long term improved contracts, because we remain of the view that our starting eleven compares with anybody in the Premier League.
"Our plan - and what we are working on - is to try and improve the team; not to be so stupid as to reduce the quality of our squad."
Liverpool host Reading on Wednesday night in an FA Cup third-round replay. They are out of the Champions League and Carling Cup, and no certainties to qualify for Champions League football next season.
