Lucas ready for come back against United
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has set his sights on facing bitter rivals Manchester United next weekend after recovering from a knee injury.
The Brazilian star has been sidelined since the middle of January, when he sustained his problem in the 2-2 draw with Aston Villa, but he has came through a reserves match against West Ham United unscathed.
Monday night’s home clash with Sunderland could come too soon for the 27-year-old as the Reds do not want to risk rushing him back and sparking a fitness setback.
However, the crunch showdown with champions United next Sunday, which could have major implications for the race for Champions League qualification, is a realistic target for Lucas.
He said on Twitter: “Happy to get 90 minutes. Now a good week of training and be ready for next game.”
Defender Mamadou Sakho, a summer signing from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, also featured against the Hammers following his comeback from a tendon injury.
