Boss Hints at move for City Defender

The Englishman looks likely to leave Manchester City this summer and seemingly fits the bill for Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has hinted he could be ready to make a move for City full-back Micah Richards.

The 25-year-old could leave the Etihad Stadium this summer after 13 years at the club.

With Pablo Zabaleta the first-choice right-back, and Richards suffering with knee and hamstring injuries, the defender has made just nine Premier League starts in the last two seasons.

And his prospects of first-team football appear to have diminished even further this summer with the arrival of Bacary Sagna on a free transfer from Arsenal.

Richards was linked with a move last summer but City were firm in their stance that he would not be allowed to leave under any circumstances.

But with Zabaleta’s impressive form and Sagna’s arrival, that approach has softened.

Richards, who has a year left on his contract, has also been linked with moves to Arsenal and Tottenham.

Rodgers has hinted he is looking for someone with Premier League and Champions League experience, of which Richards has both.

He said: “We’re in a position now where we’re going straight into the group stage of the Champions League and we’re going into the

Premier League next season with an expectation and a belief that we can win the league.

“We need players that have those qualities.”
