Liverpool to make £40 marquee signing?

Liverpool are weighing up a move for Real Madrid’s £40m-rated striker Karim Benzema as they step up their search for a replacement for Luis Suarez, the Metro reports.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is now said to be considering his options after the club accepted Barcelona’s offer for the player and he travelled to Catalonia to undergo a medical.

The Merseyside club will pocket around £63m for Suarez, and reports in Spain say he could look to immediately spend £40m of that on Benzema of Real Madrid.

Liverpool are acutely aware that they are in need of a top quality new striker this summer and continue to chase Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, though have been made aware that Benzema could be made available by the Spanish giants.

The Frenchman has reportedly already turned his nose up at one new contract offer from the Galacticos, and now the club could be tempted to cash in on him now to ensure they get as much money for him as possible.

Rodgers will meet with Liverpool officials this week in order to discuss potential options of how best to deal with Suarez’s departure.
