Origi signing imminent

The Lille striker will complete a £12.5million move in the next few days after choosing the Reds ahead of Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid

Belgian World Cup sensation Divock Origi has told Liverpool he wants to come to Anfield.

The Lille striker will complete a £12.5million move in the next few days after choosing the Reds ahead of Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid.

Origi’s father Mike has flown to the United States to meet with Liverpool officials in Boston to conclude a deal which will see the 19-year-old loaned back to the French club for next season.

It took the striker almost three weeks to decide on his next club after being given a guided tour of Anfield and the club’s training ground at Melwood by Brendan Rodgers just four days after Belgium had been knocked out of the World Cup by Argentina.

He was joined on the trip by several family members - including his agent-dad, who is a former Kenyan international.

Rodgers outlined his plans for both the club and the player - but it was his patience in allowing Origi time to think the deal through that sealed the deal.

Origi’s will be the Merseyside club’s seventh summer signing following the recruitment of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic, Loic Remy and Emre Can and takes Rodgers’ spending through the £100million barrier.
