Will Liverpool outbid United to sign this world-cup star?

Premier League pair Manchester United and Liverpool have been given a deadline by Juventus if either club are to make a bid for midfielder Arturo Vidal this summer, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has emerged as one of the most coveted players in world football after his commanding displays in the Old Lady’s midfield helped the Italian giants win the Serie A title, courtesy of a European record points total of 102.

Although the Chile international, who also enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign in Brazil, has admitted that his future is uncertain, the widespread interest in his signature has not come to fruition.

Manchester United were believed to be frontrunners for his signature, with new manager Louis van Gaal desperate to add guile to his ranks at Old Trafford, but their Merseyside rivals have also now emerged as potential suitors, with Liverpool reported to be preparing a £42 million bid for Vidal.

There candidacy for the player was further strengthened when Vidal was quoted as having explicitly ruled out a move for to Manchester, though the Serie A champions also insist the Chilean has no reason to leave the club altogether.

Crucially, however, neither of the duo have made an official bid as of yet and Juventus have now insisted one must arrive before August 2. Massimiliano Allegri’s players leave for a pre-season tour of Asia next Sunday and Vidal’s future will have to be resolved before then or he will remain with the Bianconeri next season.
