Alonso to out of action for quite long
Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso could be set to miss more action as he struggles to overcome a slight knock picked up during the emphatic 4-0 victory over Real Madrid at Anfield last week.
The injury forced Alonso to hobble off during the second half of the game, and put him out of Saturday’s impressive 4-1 victory over arch-rivals Manchester United.
Reds boss Rafa Benitez appeared worried today, unsure whether the Spanish international will make Sunday’s Premier League clash at home to Aston Villa.
Benitez also has Yossi Benayoun, Philipp Degen, Daniel Agger and Alvaro Arbeloa sidelined through injury, although the latter two are expected to return to action soon.
“It will be difficult for Xabi Alonso,” Benitez told the club’s official web site. “He was training but only with the physios.
“At the moment we are only definitely without Yossi Benayoun and Philipp Degen so it’s very good for us that most of the players are fit because it means we can change them when we need to.”
