Liverpool are closing in on a 25 million pound deal for Southampton and England midfielder Adam Lallana.
Sources told ESPN FC on Friday afternoon that the 26-year-old was on his way to Merseyside for a medical at the club's Melwood training ground.
Lallana was Liverpool's top transfer target at the start of the summer, as manager Brendan Rodgers set about strengthening his squad ahead of their return to the Champions League after a four-season absence.
The midfielder has always been keen to move to Anfield, attracted by the prospect of working with Rodgers, who guided the Reds to second place in last season's Premier League with a philosophy of attacking football.
Liverpool, though, have had to be persistent to make progress on the deal, having had two previous bids rejected.
They have finally made a breakthrough following the midfielder's return from the World Cup, where he featured in all three of England's matches, two of them as a substitute.
The move would end Lallana's 14-year association with Southampton, who he joined from Bournemouth in 2000 at the age of 12.
