United eyeing Liverpool target
Man Utd in talks to sign Liverpool target Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona for £20m
According to reports, United are locked in discussions with Barcelona over a £20m deal for the Chile international.
Liverpool have also tabled an offer for Sanchez, who has been told he is free to leave the Camp Nou this summer by new Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.
Last week Italian giants Juventus had an £18m bid for Sanchez turned down, with Barcelona seeking at least £20m for the 25-year-old.
Despite Liverpool and Juventus being able to offer Champions League football next season, it is United that have moved ahead in the race to land Sanchez having made it clear that they are willing to meet Barcelona's asking price.
Louis Van Gaal is aiming to overhaul United's squad and has left vice-chairman Ed Woodward in control of securing his top targets, while he fulfils his duties with the Netherlands at the World Cup.
Even if United are able to strike a deal with Barcelona, Sanchez is unlikely to complete a switch to Old Trafford until after this summer's finals.
Prior to any switch, Sanchez will also come up against his potential new manager in Brazil with Chile to take on Van Gaal's Netherlands, Australia and world champions Spain in Group B.
