Mascherano commits to Barcelona amid Liveprool speculation

Javier Mascherano has pledged his future to Barcelona by signing a four-year deal that will keep him at the Nou Camp until June 2018.

The midfielder was rumoured to be leaving the La Liga giants with ex-club Liverpool among those interested in bringing the 29-year-old back to the Premier League for a second stint.

But that has been brought to an abrupt end after Barcelona announced they had agreed terms with Mascherano, including a €100million buyout clause.

'FC Barcelona announces that it has reached an agreement with Javier Mascherano for the improvement and extension of his contract for the next four years, until 30 June 2018, plus an optional season. His buyout clause will be €100m,' said Barcelona on their official website.

Mascherano, who joined Barcelona in 2010 from Liverpool for €24m, is preparing to represent Argentina at the World Cup in Brazil.

Putting an end to the speculation will take a load off the midfielder's mind going into the summer tournament.

Since joining Barcelona, Mascherano has won the La Liga twice, Copa del Rey once and the Champions League once.
